East Dorset CAMRA Pub & Brewery News (from Ed's Pint)
From Wimborne to Westminster
Congratulations to Eight Arch Brewery. Only twelve months after starting brewing Eight Arch beer is to
be available in the House of Commons, arranged by local MP, Michael Tomlinson. Eight Arch owner Steve
Farrell said, ‘I plan to visit Parliament during the first week in March so I can see my beer on the bar. The last twelve months has gone so well. But the highlight of the first year will surely be when MP’s go to the bar and Order, Order, a pint or two of Eight Arch Bowstring Bitter.’ With luck this important addition to the home of democracy will help to improve the quality and civility of debates.
New Bear Planned for Christchurch
The Saxon Bear has been given planning permission by Christchurch Borough Council and will open once refurbishments are completed perhaps even in time for Easter. This will be the sister micropub to David and Nicola Holland ‘s Wight Bear in Southbourne. Who knows what, if it were to happen, a third pub in the
family might be called, I’m putting my money on the fourth to be Goldilocks.
Bankes Arms Hotel, Corfe Castle
The Bankes Arms Hotel, Corfe Castle has recently re-opened under new management and ownership. Now a free house and having undergone extensive renovation they offer a selection of ales including Palmers Gold, 200 and Copper, Wychwood Hobgoblin, Hobgoblin Gold, Ringwood Boondoggle and Tisbury Local.
In addition they are launching 2 cask ales brewed exclusively for the hotel, Lady Bankes’ Bitter and Corfe
Ye Old George Inn, Christchurch
While in Christchurch it’s disappointing to report the sudden closure of Ye Olde George Inn. Nobody seems too sure what’s happened there. It was linked to the Dolphin at Blandford which has now reopened under new management. Let’s hope it’s only a temporary set back.
